It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year since Two Food Girls posted our first recipe. A lot has happened in the course of this year. Of course, a lot of delicious food has been discussed. We have so loved your interaction and your readership. Vanessa and I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have such a fabulous village of foodies with whom we may share our passion and our love for all things edible.
Every once in a while, something exciting and unexpected happens to me. Recently, my excitement came in the form of 4 FULL SIZED bottles of an incredible line of seasonings, delivered to me with the request that I please try them and, if I like them, share them our lovely readers. Ok, let me break this down for you. Someone gave me free food to write about…. Could we possibly combine two things that make this girl happier? I mean…I guess I can sacrifice some of my time for this. And let’s just pretend that when I received them, I didn’t immediately crack each bottle open in the car and stick my finger in to taste them.
I always look forward to that first incredible fall-like day in Minnesota when the temperature barely hits 55; when I see that first amber leaf high atop the maples lining our St. Paul street; when the smells of grilled meat have been replaced by the unmistakable smell of a cozy fire in the fireplace….and I hear my husband begging for a bowl of my chili.
First food post people!! Vanessa and I are super excited to get this blog going. Designing a space just for us to get creative with food and share our passion for connecting and building relationships through the sacred experience of breaking bread with others has been a vision of ours for quite some time. In this weekly blog you will find our stories, our experiences, our personalities, our joys and our passions. Every two weeks we will focus on a different dish or ingredient. One week you will get my take on that dish and one week you will get Vanessa’s take. What we hope you will find, as we have, is that one dish can have unlimited preparations and possibilities. The kitchen is a perfect place to experiment and find your “food personality.” There is so much room for interpretation and expression in food.
Now…onto the chili!!
We are Two Food Girls, also known as Jess and Vanessa. We met at a birthday party/sleep over more than 25 years ago. We hit it off over our mutual love of cheese and the movie “Free Willy.” Over the years, we’ve continued to bond over music, theater and life and eventually discovered our shared appreciation for really delicious food. We have shared many experimental “hits and misses” in the kitchen, traveled and found new delicious dishes outside of Minnesota, debated over what really makes up the perfect brownie or bread and butter pickle, built a lifelong sisterhood and friendship and developed our own individual “food identities” along the way.
