Homemade Brownies

Homemade BrowniesAn oh so familiar scene…You start small.  You cut and devour a 1″x 1″ section.  Then you slice another sliver off.  And another.  By the time the night is over, only small crumbs remain in that clear glass pan.  You know what I am talking about…BROWNIES! These chocolatey gooey cake squares are always a crowd favorite.

Has anyone ever told you that making them from scratch is ALMOST as easy as making them from a box?  No really.  They are easy…and more delicious.  When you make them from scratch, you get to personalize your brownies with flavors and ingredients.  My mom has added fresh mint.  My grams would add nuts.  Chad and I chose a special high fat cocoa from our favorite spice store, Penzeys.  This cocoa makes the brownies rich and decadent…and perfect with a glass of milk.

Homemade Brownies

1 c butter

2 1/4 c sugar

1 1/4 c cocoa

1 tsp. salt

1 tsp. baking powder

1 tbs. vanilla extract

4 eggs

1 1/2 c flour

2 c semi sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350.  Lightly grease a 9×13 pan (we use coconut oil spray).  In a medium saucepan, melt butter over low heat.  Once melted, add in sugar and let cook 1-2 minutes continuously stirring.  Pour sugar mixture into large bowl and beat in cocoa, salt, baking powder, vanilla and eggs.  Make sure the mixture is cool enough to add eggs or temper them before you put them in.  Mix ingredients until combined.  Stir in flour and chocolate chips.  Spread brownie batter into prepared pan.  Bake for 30 minutes or until desired texture is attained.  Cool and enjoy!

*We halved the batch and made in a 9×9 pan….slightly less sinful.
