What you want….. baby I got it. Ha!
Seriously though, doesn’t a hot, steamy bowl of creamy, hearty, savory (yet, slightly sweet) tomato soup just sound….. like YES?? I think Aretha would agree.
It is freezing in Minnesota right now and all I want to do is sit, snuggled up in my bed, with a stocking cap on, watching a good Hallmark movie, and eating something really comforting. And what is more comforting than tomato soup and grilled cheese?? It’s a total, throwback-to-childhood food that brings with it, all the comforts of a time when your mom would gently sweep your hair back so she could softly cup your winter-kissed-rosy-cheeks, right before dropping off a plate cheesy, tomatoey perfection in front of you. Who wouldn’t want that?
It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year since Two Food Girls posted our first recipe. A lot has happened in the course of this year. Of course, a lot of delicious food has been discussed. We have so loved your interaction and your readership. Vanessa and I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have such a fabulous village of foodies with whom we may share our passion and our love for all things edible.
The last few months, I have been feeling a bit nostalgic. Maybe it’s just that I’m getting older, or maybe it’s the turning of seasons that always makes me a little reflective about the consistent and unending passing of time.
It is mid-September in Minnesota and I can already feel the fall air beginning to creep in. Even though I love, love, love summer and I wait for it all year round, I have to admit, Minnesota fall is my spirit animal. I crave the crisp air, the painted leaves, the wool sweaters, the boots, the bonfires, and of course the foods like Grandma’s hotdish, hot creamy soup or spicy chili, and steaming mugs of fresh apple cider – all the hallmarks of this beautiful and beloved season in the midwest.
Sometimes you just want to eat something that is both comforting while also being clean and really fresh. Enter the rice bowl. We are a big fan of rice bowls in our house mainly because they are delicious, healthy, and so simple – a matter of layering flavorful ingredients on top of a bowl of fresh, steamy rice. I love rice bowls because they just look so darn pretty.
Every once in awhile in a person’s life, you find that one special restaurant. You know what I am talking about, your default place. It may not be the best food, location and/or ambience, but it keeps you coming back for that Cheers “Where everybody knows your name” feeling.
Every once in a while, something exciting and unexpected happens to me. Recently, my excitement came in the form of 4 FULL SIZED bottles of an incredible line of seasonings, delivered to me with the request that I please try them and, if I like them, share them our lovely readers. Ok, let me break this down for you. Someone gave me free food to write about…. Could we possibly combine two things that make this girl happier? I mean…I guess I can sacrifice some of my time for this. And let’s just pretend that when I received them, I didn’t immediately crack each bottle open in the car and stick my finger in to taste them.
I love snack food. I mean I really love snack food. If I’m at a party where there are drinks being served and there are no snacks, I’m
likely to leave probably feeling like something is missing. As I’ve become a mama, of course I’ve passed my love for all things snacky onto Jonah and like me, he craves the crunch of popcorn, homemade chex mix and anything cheesy or crackery.
